Many types of Hendrix memorabilia are valuable. Since Hendrix fans are all about the music, and not the image, the most valuable items on eBay are limited-edition vinyl records. However, virtually anything Hendrix-related will mean something to a fan, and there are few truly worthless items. Categories that hold a lot of value include:
Original Photographs
Even unsigned photos can still be worth several hundred dollars, provided that they are original. Both fan photos from concerts and commercial photos from magazines can be sold for good chunks of money. The only catch is that you need to prove that the photos are original. This is easiest to do if you also have the negative from which the photograph was printed.
Original Posters
Hendrix Posters can be worth some serious cash. Unlike t-shirts, they can be framed and put on the walls of wealthy baby boomers looking to add some Summer of Love charm to their rooms. Original unsigned posters, in mint condition, go for a whopping $2000 on eBay. Even slightly damaged ones still have charm and are worth hundreds. An original signed poster recently hit ten grand in bidding.
Like photographs, posters only hit these high values if they are provably original. An antique assessor can verify the age of a poster by the printing techniques used.
That said, even reproductions can still go for a little money. Good vintage reproduction posters can sell for up to $50, depending on rarity.
Magazine and Newspaper Memorabilia
Magazine covers featuring Hendrix, from his life or shortly after his death, are extremely valuable. The original Rolling Stones magazines with Hendrix covers sell for hundreds, while even recent commemorative covers can sell for up to $50.
Vintage T-shirts
Any T-shirt bought at an actual Hendrix concert will net you at least $100. Even post-1970 shirts often go for almost $100, especially if they still have a vintage look. Good quality adds to the value, but even worn T-shirts can still appeal to serious vintage collectors.
Guitars
This last one probably goes without saying, but if you own a guitar that provably was once played by Hendrix, you are likely already a millionaire. Hendrix’s Stratocaster alone is worth over 2 million dollars.
Hendrix fans tend to be very passionate. This is great news for antique sellers! Almost all memorabilia has some value, and some items, like original posters, may even sell for thousands.
