GTA workers to help NYC recovery

A number of hydro workers from Toronto went to New York City on Sunday to help restore power to many areas affected by Hurricane Sandy, the Toronto Star reported.

Storms like Sandy serve as a good reminder to individuals in the Greater Toronto Area to secure their valuables by placing them in self storage containers, to keep them safe from unexpected damage.

Brand Cumming, who works at Burlington Hydro, is heading to New York to help and said that this is the first time local utilities like Burlington, along with Oakville, Kingston, Milton and Hamilton have left town to help with disaster relief.

“I’ve been to the ice storm ’98 in Quebec, and you went there and you knew there were trees down and a lot of snow, but people didn’t actually lose anything,” Cumming told the Toronto Star. “This is the first time we’re going into something as a group that people are devastated and have lost everything.”

Self storage can be a smart way to hang on to valuable items without taking up room in a house or apartment. For Toronto storage solutions, there's no better than Jiffy Self Storage.
