More considering using self storage to keep wine collections at the right temperature

The wine industry continues to flourish and more people are taking to collecting bottles to enjoy during the week or on special occasions. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, annual consumption of wine among Canadian residents increased from 11.3 liters in 2000 to 14.6 liters in 2006 – a growth of total domestic market consumption of 470 million liters in 2007.

With more people drinking and collecting wine, it's no wonder that many are looking for creative storage options to keep their fine spirits.

Food.ca reports that there are certain requirements for storing wine properly, as wine spoils very easily. The temperature of the space is the most crucial element to keeping wine safe. The best temperature for storing wine is between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The ideal humidity should be between 60 and 80 percent, though 70 percent is the best number. According to the news outlet, if there is too little humidity the wine may dry out.

Some wine enthusiasts might find room to keep their bottles in their basements or in the pantry in the kitchen, however for collections that have outgrown the home, climate controlled self storage units might be the right fit. Using one of these units allows renters to select the ideal temperature and will also keep the bottles out of the sun, which can damage the taste. This outlet doesn't need to be expensive – renters can simply look online for affordable self storage in Toronto or other parts of Canada to find a suitable facility.
