Janitor ‘cleans up’ after winning $16 million in lottery

A Toronto man whose profession is devoted to cleanliness and order is a filthy rich man today.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, John Addo, a Toronto janitor, hit the jackpot after scoring one of the three winning tickets in an April 15 drawing. Addo will take home $16.6 million before taxes.

Addo, who’s originally from Ghana, has been living in the Toronto area for the past 20 years and works seven days a week for an industrial cleaning outfit.

“I immediately went home and lay down for a while to think about it,” the 50-year-old Addo told reporters recently. “Then I called a friend to come over so that I could tell someone.”

Addo is the latest Torontonian to net himself millions of dollars in lottery winnings. Three area bakers split $50 million last month in the same LottoMax sweepstakes.

It’s not known if Addo – who probably knows a little something about the value of storage units, given his profession – will keep his janitorial position, but odds are good he won’t have to work nearly as often.
