How To Prepare Your Home For The Holidays

The holidays are among us, and for many homeowners that means shifting into ultra-organization mode! Do not let all that clutter get you down folks, as all it takes is a few simple tips and some serious dedication to make your home holiday gathering-friendly once more.

Prepare Your Home

It is shocking how much junk can accumulate over the course of a year, and figuring out what to do with it all in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas can definitely feel like an uphill battle. The trick to getting your place ready for a household of activity is temporarily relocating belongings that are not necessary. That being said, before you bust out all those seasonal decorations, follow this fool-proof holiday storage advice!

A Homeowner’s Guide to Getting Ready for the Holidays

  1. Rent a Short-Term Storage Unit

If you have enough free space in your attic, basement, or garage, start there first. However, to avoid excess clutter and keep your home looking clean and organized during the busiest time of year, opt for a temporary rental unit. What you want to do is put all non-seasonal belongings in here before bringing out their counterparts. Many people use long-term storage for exactly this reason!

  2. Make Sure Entryway Is up to Snuff

To impress your guests and make sure they receive a warm invitation, clean up the clutter around your entryway and possibly upgrade the foyer with a new door or coat of paint. Put a foot mat down to capture dirt and dust, and do not forget to install additional hooks for hanging coats. It takes a lot of work to be a great holiday host, but it definitely pays off in the end!

  3. Deep Clean the House

If there was ever a reason to get down and dirty with your cleaning gear, this is it. To avoid overexerting yourself and in order to maintain motivation, take this one step at a time. Needless to say, you do not want to wait until the last minute to kick off the cleaning process. Definitely allow yourself at least a few weeks in advance.

The holidays are meant for spending quality time with the ones we love, not stressing about the small stuff. In the midst of this hectic season, remember the things that matter most. You do not have to keep up with the Jones to have a home full of love and laughter this year; have fun cleaning and organizing, but do not overdo it!
