How To Efficiently Pack Items In Your Drive-Up Storage Unit

You have made the big decision to place some of your personal belongings in a self storage unit, now the task at hand is making sure that it is packed properly so that your belongings are secure, and it’s simple to get them in and out when you need them. A drive-up storage unit makes it so you can get to your items, especially heavier and delicate items, with ease. Below are some tips to help you efficiently pack items in your storage unit.

How To Efficiently Pack Your Storage Unit

Choose the Right Boxes

You typically are going to need four small to medium-sized boxes for every large box that you have. Pack heavier items in large boxes and place them nearer to the front so that you are not stuck trying to manoeuvre your heaviest, most unwieldy items out of the depths of the unit.

Store Clothing Vertically

If you are storing clothing, like seasonal garments, it is wise to go with hanging wardrobe boxes. These not only prevent wrinkling and other wear and tear that happens when clothes are stored folded-up, but they help to maximize the vertical space in your unit and leave floor space for things that cannot be stored vertically. You can also use hanging wardrobe boxes to store garden tools and other items that are best stored vertically.

Pack Efficiently

Storing your items efficiently means reducing everything to its minimum size. If the bed frame can be disassembled, do so, and wrap the individual parts together with tape or bungee cords to reduce the amount of space they take up in your unit.

Create Pathways

Your drive-up storage unit is made all the more useful if you can get in and out fast. This means being able to access items that you need without having to rearrange, or take out a bunch of things first. Keep in mind that a pathway to the back of the unit that lets you access every part of the storage space will help you do this. You will thank yourself down the road when it comes time to take that mattress out of the very back of the unit and you don’t have to unload 85% of the storage space to get at it.

A drive-up storage unit can be a huge help to people who simply cannot afford to store anything else in their home or office. It can also be a huge hassle if not packed and organized properly. Keep the above packing and organizing tips in mind and get the most out of your drive-up self storage unit.
