4 Convenient Storage Options for Students

Finding convenient, accessible, and affordable storage solutions for college and university students can be quite difficult, especially in a city as busy as Toronto. For those who move to a new apartment or dorm room every school year, it can be difficult to find a place to store your furniture and belongings when not in school. At Jiffy Self Storage, we offer a wide variety of flexible storage options tailored specifically to your needs and your schedule.

Storage units in Canada are becoming more and more expensive as Canadians struggle with having “too much stuff.” Especially in urban areas like Toronto, houses and apartments are simply too small to accommodate families and students alike, and there is a lack of storage space that can facilitate such a large population. Many storage providers are expanding their services, but increased services often lead to increased prices.

For students and young professionals struggling with part-time jobs, underemployment, and student loans, every dollar counts. At Jiffy Self Storage, we offer a wide variety of options to accommodate your storage needs and your budget. Here is a list of four convenient storage options for students who are on a budget:

  1. Short-term storage

Finding an apartment in Toronto can be a stressful, overwhelming process that can also take some time. For students moving to Toronto who don’t have a residence, we offer short-term storage units that allow you to store your furniture and belongings while you look for a place to live. This offers you ample flexibility without worrying about where to leave your drum kit, record player, or mountain bike.

Our short-term options are great for newcomers to the city and we are happy to hold on to your belongings for as long as you need. In fact, we don’t force our customers to sign long-term contracts, so you are free to pick up your stuff and clear out your locker at any time. This option is also great for students who take a semester or two to study abroad, as you can pack up everything you don’t need and have peace of mind knowing that it is safe and secure in your storage unit.

  1. Long-term storage

Conversely, some students need a storage unit because their apartment or dorm room is too small for all of their belongings. Others need to store their stuff because they are moving across the country. In this case, long-term storage options are available – we’ve had customers store their gear for over 20 years! Our long-term storage options are designed for ultimate convenience and accessibility.

If you plan on storing your belongings for a long time (more than a few months), you will be given a priority location that gives you the best access to your unit. When you forget that you desperately need your favourite French press that you had already packed, you can easily come and pick it up. For added convenience, we recommend larger units for long-term tenants, as the extra space makes it easier to leave an aisle down the middle of your unit so all of your boxes are accessible. 1. Mini units

After years in the industry, we created mini-storage options in response to heavy customer demand for affordable storage. These mini units can be as small as 25 square feet, which is about the size of a small closet. Mini units are ideal for students who have a very small number of items that need to be stored long-term. It is the most affordable and economical option.

One of the benefits of our mini units is that most of our units still have our standard 11-foot ceilings, offering you ample space for stacking boxes and taking advantage of your small unit. For even greater savings, we have also cut these mini units in half, height-wise. This has allowed us to create two mini units where there used to be one, offering a cozy, tight space that is great for anyone who needs to store a few boxes. If your storage needs are minimal, and you want the lowest price possible, mini units are an excellent option.

  1. Climate control and security features

There are a wide variety of features available for all of our tenants and their storage units. Our Toronto facility offers ample storage space in a controlled, secure climate, ensuring all of your belongings are safe from theft, vandalism, and environmental damage.

At Jiffy Self Storage, we have a computer access system that prevents anyone who does not have a storage unit from entering the premises. The safety and security of our tenants and their belongings is our top priority, and we take this responsibility very seriously. Our access hours are from 7AM to 10PM, which ensures you can visit your locker at your convenience while still offering overnight security. Our facility is also designed to combat environmental factors including heat, moisture, and humidity. Our climate control system ensures that your belongings will be safe and comfortable, and will not suffer any damage due to unfavourable environmental conditions.

Storing your belongings doesn’t have to be a stressful ordeal. At Jiffy Self Storage, we offer a variety of storage options, so you can choose the exact unit that is right for your needs. Whether you need regular access to all of your belongings or simply a dry, safe place to store your furniture while you spend a year abroad, we have a storage unit for you.
