January a great time to sell in Canada

Open houses and for sale signs can be seen more frequently in Canada during January and the reasons behind it are surprising, The Globe and Mail reports.

More sellers list their homes and condos during January if they live on a busy street. The reason, according to the news source, is because holding an open house during the colder months means less activity from neighbors and passers-by, which can help a house on a noisy street sell faster. Also, windows tend to be closed up, so noise levels are typically at their lowest in the winter.

Another reason to start selling in the early months of the year is to get people interested in the homes before spring arrives. The lull in activity during the winter can get more buyers in the mood for shopping around for possible houses. The source reports that some banks in Toronto have dropped their mortgage rates to all-time-lows, which may prompt even more home buyer hopefuls to be on the prowl.

Although it may be a great time for sellers to think about putting up that for sale sign, staging a home in the winter can be a real headache. To avoid priceless heirlooms and furniture getting damaged in the inclement weather, sellers should look into affordable self storage in Toronto to keep items safe. This way, owners can spend more time prepping the house and less time worried about storage dilemmas.
