One of Toronto's most famous foodies recently revealed the story behind one of her secret ingredients. Wanda Srdoc, also known as the "truffle lady," has been providing some of the city's hottest chefs with unique truffles imported from Croatia for the past seven years. According to the Toronto Star, Srdoc walks around town carrying a suitcase packed with some of the food industry's most coveted truffles she saves for the chefs.
While being a chef would be an amazing career, not everyone is cut out for it. For novice chefs who collect cookbooks, it can be hard to find space to fit all of them. However, by renting a self storage space, Toronto residents can feel organized without having to worry about decade-old books.
The white truffle is one of Croatia's most elusive fungi and it draws many tourists each year to forage through its lands in search of its goodness. According to Lonely Planet, each year, epicureans travel to the country for its five day Truffle Festival, which includes samplings of the regions most loved delicacies.
Srdoc said she is happy she's known for providing the truffles.
“People can smell me when I’m walking in,” she said to the news source. “I’m yet to be able to describe the smell, maybe that’s what makes it so exciting – it’s a mystery.”
