The Feinstein Foundation is a non-profit organization involved in a number of charitable causes. Every year, the Foundation runs the annual Feinstein Challenge, which tasks local businesses and groups from across the country with raising money and food to fight hunger.
The idea behind the challenge is simple. The Feinstein Foundation budgets $1 million for the challenge, but asks each group to fundraise on their own as an incentive. The business or group then goes and raises as much as they can in donations, with the money and food going to local organizations.
Once the group provides proof to the Feinstein Foundation of how much they raised in food and money, the Feinstein foundation will then give them a donation – up to $35,000 – for the equivalent amount. In total, the charity gives out $1 million to different hunger-fighting business and groups this time of year. This way, the money stays within the local community and the business or group benefits from their hard work as well.
One self storage company in Florida is taking the challenge, collecting food and donations at 27 locations across the state. Self storage facilities are a good candidate for the hunger challenge, as they have built-in storage space to house the non-perishable food items collected.
