Some changes are coming to Toronto that suggests the city is growing at a prodigious rate: new area codes.
Starting March 25, 2013, the Greater Toronto Area will have two new area codes – 437 and 365. The former number will service those who are in the the 416/546 area, while the latter will be for GTA residents in the 905/289 area codes.
The new numbers result from a decision made by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, as demand for Toronto telephone numbers is quickly exceeding the supply.
Glenn Pilley, director of the Canadian Numbering Association, said current GTA residents shouldn't be affected.
"The introduction of a new area code in a region enables millions of additional telephone numbers to be provided without affecting the existing numbers," said Pilley. "It is part of today's reality throughout North America. This measure demonstrates the flexibility and growth potential of the Canadian telecommunications network."
With Toronto being an ever increasingly popular place to relocate to, current residents would be wise to secure a storage unit while they still can.
