Immigration prompts diversity in Toronto

As more people around the world immigrate to Canada, Toronto sees many families searching for cheap storage space.

According to a recent article in The Star, the 2011 National Household Survey revealed that 2.5 million immigrants called Toronto home, composing almost half of the region's population. Of all Ontario immigrants, nearly 70 percent of them live in the greater Toronto area.

"Canada is as diverse as it has ever been," said Tina Chui, chief of immigration and ethno-cultural statistics at Statistics Canada. "Diversity plays out differently across the country. When you look at the immigrant population in Montreal, the makeup is very different from those in Toronto and Vancouver."

Of the immigrants entering Canada between 2006 and 2011, 32.8 percent – or 381,700 – chose Toronto, according to The Star. Many hail from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, often bringing valuable family heirlooms with them.

Self storage can be a smart way to hang on to valuable items without taking up room in a house or apartment. For Toronto storage solutions, there's no better than Jiffy Self Storage.
