Canadians’ trash is often cash

This being the season for spring cleaning, storage units often see spikes in activity as more people try to get organized. Even though this gives people the extra room they need, homeowners often want to clean things up further by throwing things away.

But they may be throwing out more than they bargained for.

According to a study conducted by Kijiji Canada, 40 percent of the country's residents throw out there belongings when they could be selling them for hundreds of dollars. But, the study, found, people likely wouldn't do this if they knew someone who needed the items or were told about an easier way to get rid of them.

Whatever the reason for throwing things away, Jaclyn Ray of Kijiji Canada said it's a poor excuse for losing money.

"There's no reason to trash cash," Ray said. Ray went on to say that people can make it easier to sell household items by listing them in online classifieds and to include a photo with what's being sold.

It's not hard to understand why people feel the need to keep things tidy by trashing old belongings. A recent study conducted by OfficeMax found that 77 percent said organization increased their productivity.
