Toronto woman charged with animal cruelty after authorities find 50 cats in her home

Jiffy Storage and virtually every other storage unit company in the country caters to people who have lots of things that they don't want to get rid of. But a Toronto woman is giving a new meaning to the word "packrat."

Toronto police arrested a 63-year-old woman and charged her with animal cruelty after the Ontario Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized approximately 50 cats from her property.

Authorities said when they arrived at the home, the property was covered in cat excrement and wreaked of urine.

Officials said they were made aware of the woman, who's been identified as Diane Way, by pollsters who approached the entrance to the doorway and were overwhelmed by the stench. Toronto Police Detective James McCormack told the Toronto Sun that the pollsters believed someone had died.

This woman's issues with cleanliness and hoarding were serious enough to result in a criminal charge. Circumstances such as these are rare, but they are still a testimony to the impact overcrowding can have on a person's quality of life. Jiffy Storage can serve as an antidote to that problem.
