Renter’s insurance a potentially smart option for new college students

For many recent high school graduates, college is right around the corner. Soon, they'll be packing up their possessions and moving out of their homes for the first time. A scary thought that may be less frightening with the proper planning. A recent blog post for the Toronto Star outlined the importance of renter's insurance for students who will be living alone in their new apartments.

“Consider the cost of replacing your laptop of smartphone if you were robbed,” Dave Minor, a vice president with TD Insurance, told the newspaper. “Before moving out, it’s important to understand the basics of renter’s insurance and ensure you have the right coverage in place to protect yourself."

Renter's insurance is a low monthly cost that can protect the belongings of college students moving into a new place. Another good investment when moving into a new apartment are storage containers in Toronto, which can keep prized possessions from breaking while in transit.

According to the blog post, there are a few other things students need to consider when thinking about purchasing renter's insurance for their college apartments. Many students think incorrectly that their landlord's or roommate's insurance will cover their belongings, but that's not the case. Furthermore, renter's insurance is also inexpensive, and even affordable for college students.

Jiffy Self Storage, a leader in Toronto storage solutions, is currently running a contest on their website for a free iPad 3. Visitors to the site simply need to match a few Canadian landmarks and they'll be entered to win the iPad or one of several other prizes.
