Canadian Paralympic team returns home to cheers

Nearly 30 Canadian Paralympic athletes were greeted by dozens of cheering fans, friends, family and the Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band, as they arrived home from the Games in London.

The Canadians won a total of seven gold medals at the Paralympics, down from their Beijing performance four years ago, where they came back with 10. Nonetheless, the team was all smiles, embracing their fans and by no means disappointed by the 31 medals they accumulated at this years Games.

The event serves as a reminder to individuals and sporting goods stores with extra sports equipment lying around that cheap storage is available in the Toronto area.

“It was just such a load off my back to be home again,” Valérie Grand’Maison, who won gold in the women’s 200-metre freestyle, told Global News. “All that stress, all that pressure, it just eats away at you. It’s going to be great to be with my family but it’s going to be awesome to be able to sleep again.”

Overall Canada came in 20th place at the Games and many of the athletes look forward to competing at the Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
