Canadian housing prices fall, but surge in Toronto

A new report from the Canadian Real Estate Association shows that the market is cooling in many parts of the country, but remains red-hot in Toronto.

Just a few months ago, Vancouver was the city with high sales and even higher prices for new homes. Now, the focus has shifted to Toronto. While the average price of a home in many major Canadian cities fell in March, according to the report, Toronto's prices jumped by more than 10 percent.

Overall, prices for Canadian homes were down 0.5 percent. However, sales of new houses rose by 2.5 percent compared to the previous month, indicating that there's still a market for homes in Canada.

One way for home buyers to save money is to supplement their space with self storage. There are many options for affordable self storage in Toronto that can result in more space without having to pay for a bigger house or apartment.

Jiffy Self Storage, a leader in Toronto storage solutions, is currently running a contest on their website for a free iPad 3. Visitors to the site simply need to match a few Canadian landmarks and they'll be entered to win the iPad or one of several other prizes.
