Jiffy Storage’ Ultimate Moving Checklist

Whether we like it or not, moving is something we all must undertake at least a couple of times throughout our lives. For many people, it is incredibly stressful and unnerving. Just the thought of picking up and moving an entire life with often decades worth of belongings, memories and more is enough to induce a panic attack in some people. If you are about to move or are in the process of moving and would like help bearing the burden, below is Jiffy Storage’ Ultimate Moving Checklist.

Moving van

One of the biggest mistakes people make when moving is leaving their moving van rental to the last minute. This can end up costing money, and we’ve even seen it throw off an entire move when vans just aren’t available. If you require the help of a moving company, make sure you secure their services well in advance so that you are not left scrambling at the last minute.

Self-storage unit

Many people don’t realize it, but one of the best things you can do for your peace of mind while moving is rent a self-storage unit. People often undertake moves and assume that they are going to be taking absolutely everything they own with them. They soon realize, especially during a downsize, that not everything is going to fit. This leaves people having to decide to donate, sell or give things away and they end up regretting it in the future. Place anything whose future you are uncertain of in a self-storage unit while you move and then decide afterward when you’ve had some time to adjust and relax.

Label maker

One of the most important things you can do during a move is to label. A label maker allows you to quickly and efficiently mark everything you are taking with you. Many people merely box and move and tell themselves they’ll sort it out once they get to the new place. This is easy to say pre-move, but once you’re settled into the new place, you’ll wish you’d had a label maker.

Address change

With a never-ending to-do list during a move, some people simply forget to change their address before they leave. This means that your mail will continue to be sent to your old location and the new owners/tenants will either have to forward it to you or worse it simply gets thrown into the trash/recycling. Change your address pre-move so that all of your important mail is forwarded directly to you at your new location.

The physical task of moving is challenging and tiring enough as it is. Make your life easier my keeping in mind the above moving checklist and ensure that you don’t forget some of the highly important, but often neglected steps during your next move.
