Canadian economic analysts are attempting to determine the reason for the disappointing amount of jobs that were lost in March. According to the Toronto Star, there were 54,500 jobs lost in March. The March losses were the most significant since February 2009, when the economy lost 69,300 jobs.

Paul Ferley, assistant chief economist at Royal Bank of Canada, said that the numbers were lower than expected.
"This was a lot weaker than expected […] so far this year, it is pointing to weakening employment relative to strong gains in the second half of last year," he said.
