Toronto police are searching for a man caught on a senior living center's security camera entering the building moments before stealing fire extinguishers from the facility. According to the Toronto Sun, investigators released an image of the man on January 7 hoping someone will come forward with information regarding the suspect.
Although the situation is unfortunate, it is more than likely the senior center will keep important items locked away in self storage units to avoid a situation like this from taking place on the property again.
The man was able to get away with five fire extinguishers, which were estimated to be worth about $1,500 in total.
"The wanted man is described as white, about 40 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet-tall, 150 to 170 pounds, with straight black hair and a receding hairline," the source reported. "He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark-blue jeans."
Police are unsure why the man targeted the nursing home specifically, but it might be because theft of the elderly is on the rise. While there's no way to completely positive a theft won't happen in a home or retirement facility, having a Toronto storage unit is definitely one way to stay safe.
