Businesses cutting back, cancelling holiday parties this year

While December 25 is approaching and holiday cheer is drawing near, many Canadians may be saddened by the results of a new survey.

According to the Human Resources Professionals Association, nearly four in 10 respondents – 39 percent – said the company they work for was not having a Christmas party this year. And among those whose employers are scheduling festivities, 56 percent said it would be scaled back due to economic concerns.

The study also determined the provinces in which respondents' employers were most or least likely to have a Christmas party. At 64 percent, Quebecers were most likely to have an office party with Ontarians coming in a distant second at 56 percent. Alberta and the Atlantic region followed at 50 and 47 percent, respectively.

To help compensate, Canadians may want to throw a larger Christmas party for their family or schedule one with their co-workers and friends at someone's home. Storage units were made for annual get togethers, as they're the ideal place to store decorations, wrapping paper and bows so that they'll be ready to go for the next holiday celebration.
