Jiffy Self Storage gets many requests for and questions about outdoor truck parking in Toronto during the winter. Here are some of the more common questions, along with what is all of the information you will need about Jiffy’s long-term parking service.

Truck Parking

1. Do you provide truck storage parking services for large trucks in Toronto?

Yes, we do! In fact, Jiffy Self Storage has been providing this service for many years and is one of the more trusted places for professional drivers to park their dump trucks and other large vehicles during the harsh winter months.

2. Can I plug my block heater in?

Yes! We supply power to our tenants’ block heaters so that they can start their trucks quickly and easily, no matter what the outside temperature.

3. Do you have a lot of extra spaces available just in case I decide last minute to park my truck at Jiffy Self Storage?

Jiffy Self Storage has a fantastic reputation among truckers as a safe, dependable place to store a truck, so we have very low turnover rates. This means that once somebody gains a spot, they aren’t likely to give it up any time soon. We recently added 8 additional 15 amp heavy duty circuits so that we can accommodate more block heaters, but word travels fast and these spots will soon be spoken for! If you are hoping to have a spot for the winter, call as soon as you can.

4. Where are you located?

We have a fantastic central location at 1805 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, right at the corner of the 400 and 401. This makes for easy access, especially convenient for customers who use their trucks every day in the GTA.

5. Can I store anything else at Jiffy Self Storage?

Of course! We have parking for cars, trucks, boats, and containers, as well as heated indoor storage. Some of our customers like to combine an outdoor parking spot with heated indoor storage for other items, so whatever your storage needs, we will work our hardest to accommodate them!

The high standards at Jiffy Self Storage make for high demand of our available space, so call today before all of the spots our taken! There are few things worse than getting taken off guard by a cold Toronto winter, and not having a place with power to park your commercial vehicle.

Thousands of homes and businesses across Toronto GTA have been extensively damaged by the recent torrential rainfall and subsequent flooding. Basements full of furniture and furnishings and many ground level dwellings sustained millions of dollars of damage. Even after the City of Toronto having invested tens of millions of dollars in storm water management upgrades, extensive back flow from flooded drainage systems and sewers were still evident in the storm catchment area.

Furthermore, many ground level, single storey storage facilities across the city were not spared and also sustained severe flood damage. This left many storage tenants at a loss. Many valuable pieces of furniture and all sorts of items were destroyed. Why take the risk again?

Where were you when the Richter scale measured 5.5?

If you felt some trembling or shaking around you, probably you did not realize that there was a real earthquake in our area but when you found out that what you felt was an earthquake, you talked up the situation with everyone around you.

When something goes wrong, we like to tell everyone about the incident. When something good happens, we like to tell people about the event.

We also have a great story to tell about our Jiffy Self Storage Toronto building. There was a rumble from within the bowels of our Toronto storage building but our reinforced concrete building survived quake trauma entirely intact. Our 6-inch reinforced concrete floors, ceilings and sturdy columns continued to protect our Toronto storage customers stuff unscathed. We are glad that we overbuilt the Toronto storage building so our customers can have peace of mind that when they choose to store their stuff at Jiffy Self Storage Toronto, their goods leave in the same condition as the first day they came in.

Does anyone out there have an earthquake tale? We’d love to hear from you. Let us know what happened in the comments section of this blog.

For companies in the process of making warehousing and storage decisions, there is a broad spectrum of options that should be considered. For those in need of large-scale complex materials handling, the warehousing function is often better left to a third party specialist. On the other end of the spectrum are unserviced spaces, which offer little more than 3 walls and a loading door (if you’re lucky).

Between the extremes lies a unique option which is proving to be highly effective for a growing number of companies. A new breed of self-storage facility has emerged, designed explicitly to meet the needs of businesses. With a range of basic services including internet connectivity, security, climate-controlled warehouses, meeting space, and parcel reception and handling, many companies are finding that their needs can be met without the costs of renting traditional warehousing space and services.

Robin Moore and his wife Anita discovered the self-storage option over three years ago. From their home in Barrie, the Moores operate Favourite British Imports Ltd., a company that imports and distributes British confections and groceries.

With a delivery area stretching from Sarnia to north of Barrie, they needed a centralized storage facility, one that could accommodate the company’s unique needs.

“We have a fluctuating business in which our inventory needs are much higher at certain times than others, so we needed a facility that could offer us flexibility throughout the year, as well as the opportunity to grow if necessary,” explains Moore. The Moores found what they needed at Jiffy Storage for Business, a self-storage facility located in Toronto.

There they discovered that space could be rented on a monthly basis, allowing them to take only the space the company required at different points throughout the year. While entrepreneurs like the Moores make up much of the tenant base at such facilities, there are also benefits for larger companies, according to Allan Barkin, president of Jiffy Storage. “The key here is that it is not necessary for a company- of any size- to invest in a large space based on what they think they may need in the future,” says Barkin. Despite the numerous advantages, Barkin and Moore agree that the self-storage route is not for everyone. For most companies, however, it is one more option that should be considered in the quest for the perfect space.

As a successful international speaker, Jeff’s travels take him all over the world to various speaking engagements. Jeff has published a number of books related to his expertise. When he travels, he usually stops off at Jiffy Self Storage to pick up a number of his various books that are sold at the speaking engagements. Jeff chose Jiffy Self Storage because of its convenient central location at Highways 400 and 401, close to Pearson International Airport, for the safekeeping of his books in a secure climate controlled environment.

Jiffy is great storage place for print collateral

Jeff knows that ceilings are extra high at Jiffy, so the more he stacks, the more he saves. Jeff rents a 5ft x 5ft locker most of the year. However, Jeff knows that when he needs more space, he can get it on demand. Jeff likes to say that he is very happy with this “storage-on-demand” concept. He is never short of space and only rents additional storage space as he needs it.

Jiffy Self Storage also receives deliveries for Jeff. This way Jeff does not have to waste valuable time waiting for deliveries of important books and documents. He also has arranged with a courier company to replenish his locker with stock. All this has made it easy for Jeff to run his speaking business and free up space in his house that otherwise was used to stock various books.

Since Jeff is using Jiffy Self Storage facilities for business purposes, the cost of storage is a legitimate expense for his business. And now that HST will be fact on July 1, 2010, his business expenses will be reduced due to increased input credits allowed with the increase to 13% HST from 5% GST.

Jeff is happy that he has found an easy way to keep his stock in a good condition without taking up valuable living space in his home.

Jiffy Self Storage welcomes businesses that need similar storage services with optional services such as parcel receiving and package holding services. Jiffy business tenants let Jiffy Self Storage staff do the waiting so they can get on with being more productive generating new business.

Are you looking to be more productive? Call Jiffy Self Storage for more information.

Unprecedented feat in Toronto Self Storage

The research firm Léger Marketing has named Jiffy Self Storage a winner of the Consumer Choice Awards for the 14th consecutive year!

According to one very satisfied customer, Jiffy Self Storage is “Absolutely excellent, I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

You can see why when you check out the question below.

Question: “Does your Toronto storage facilities have mail boxes for personal or business use?”

Answer: “You can rent a personal mail box on site. This way you can receive mail, when away from home. It works well for anyone taking a sabbatical or extended holiday overseas.

If you are running a business from one of the Jiffy Workspaces or from a self storage Toronto unit, you can start receiving your mail at the same address where you operate your business.” It’s a cost efficient business solution.”

Watch for helpful hints, relevant questions and effective solutions to all your storage problems.

Almost before our eyes the year 2009 is vanishing and we will be starting a brand new year. I know many clients and acquaintances are also asking themselves how the year has gone by so quickly.  This year was a trying year for almost every business but as a self storage business in Toronto we survived quite handily.

In spite of continued bad news about the economy last year, in 2009 we initiated many new upgrades to enhance our Toronto self storage services, like new security  systems, additional storage units, new heating and ventilation systems, extra coverage for client inquiries and more smoother and streamlined operations to make GTA mini storage easier to book and we simplified our Jiffy Toronto Self Storage move-in process as well.

In fact, Jiffy Self Storage in Toronto is ending 2009 with the same high occupancy as 2008 despite the recession, proving that people looking for moving and storage in Toronto still appreciate excellent value and honest storage services at our Toronto storage facility. Except for Jiffy Mini Storage services, most other self storage facilities in Toronto have had lackluster year and most Toronto storage facilities suffered their worst year since the recession in the early 1990s.

Jiffy Self Storage wants to thank all our clients, including our Toronto GTA residential storage clients, business storage services and office file document storage clients, outdoor storage customers including car vehicle parking and truck parking customers, that continued to have trust and confidence in us to store their stuff with us. Unlike other companies in Moving and Storage, we did not take any shortcuts to save money or reduce quality in our storage and parking services and our highly ranked storage reputation helped us fill our Toronto Storage facility as if it were just any other year. You, our clients did not let us down and we as a Toronto Self Storage Service continued to provide our customers with the same great mini storage service that they have become used to.

At this time, Jiffy Self Storage wishes our managers and staff; our customers, friends, acquaintances, business tenants and suppliers a safe holiday season and we look forward with them to a healthy and prosperous New Year in 2010.

To increase value for its tenants and provide professional services for a host of reputable Toronto moving and storage companies that use Jiffy Self Storage facilities as their base, Jiffy Self Storage has upgraded its VCR security recording device with two (2) brand new state of the art 16 channel digital video recorders (DVR), increasing its recording capacity for up to 32 cameras. The system it replaced was perfectly adequate but did not have the variety of security features and quick access to video recordings that the new system has.

The new DVRs eliminate daily changes and exchanges of video tapes by recording high quality video digital files more efficiently onto high capacity hard drives from multiple video streams. For archival purposes or for examination on or offsite, its a simple process to record digital moving images onto various storage media and devices such as USB drives, memory sticks, recordable CDs  and DVDs.

Some of the video monitoring features built into the DVRs include:

  • Ability to view digital recordings remotely via internet
  • Clear image copying with no degredation of  video files
  • Simple event and alarm search
  • Better pausing for still images
  • Motion detection of predetermined various types
  • Extra long recording times that can be increased with the installation of additional computer hard drives
  • Improved storage, especially over long periods of time

Besides the latest DVR technology working for you, Jiffy Self Storage has other automatic systems like monitored fire protection, computer controlled access and more. While other self storage companies in Toronto and Toronto file and document storage companies offer storage, Jiffy offers storage in a climate controlled environment maintained with the latest DVR technolgy. That’s why Toronto GTA families and businesses depend on Jiffy Self Storage in Toronto to deliver Toronto’s best mini storage value.

All that said, no security system is fool proof, but having the latest in digital recording systems serves as valuable deterents against unlawful acts and give increased peace of mind to storage tenants storing their stuff at Toronto’s Jiffy Self Storage.

This is the third major change to our website design since we launched our first self storage Toronto website in 1998. The look and feel of the website design was incorporated to reflect latest in contemporary design and advancements in web design.

For those persons that have a more web technical background, the self storage website was designed in PHP and utilizes flash banner ads that load various Toronto moving and storage images randomly to give each visitor a better feel for the Jiffy Storage Units offerings available in a much better organized layout than the previous Jiffy mini storage website.

The backend (or access to the inner workings of the website) was designed so that web changes can easily be made by persons not familiar with PHP programming. New pages can be added to describe Jiffy self storage services in Toronto as they happen.

The entire design process for the Toronto mini storage website from start to finish took more than 3 months but the result speak for itself. Many persons visiting the website have reported that browsing experience was a good one.

A well known graphics logo expert was retained to deliver "oomph" and new life to the old logo.

Although our Jiffy self storage Toronto brand is strong and our logo was well recognized, there was a feeling that the then current logo looked tired. It did not have the bounce nor was it memorable.

A well known Toronto graphic artist was retained to do a critique of the logo and his comments were as follows:

  • The font used for the yellow Jiffy name looked old and dated.
  • “Self Storage” text used in conjunction with “Jiffy” was hard to read and therefore did not immediately represent the Toronto self storage service to the casual looker.

Our mandate back to the designer for changes to the mini storage Toronto logo was to modify and freshen up the public storage Toronto logo but not make any radical changes, so that the new storage logo would appear basically the same, even to someone that is familiar with the old logo. Not only that, the name and service would have to standout and be easy to read.

Below are the results. On the left is the new mini storage logo and to the right is the old public storage logo.

old new compare

What do you think? Did the logo artist follow through and correctly capture the essence of the mandate provided? Is self storage Toronto service easier to read?
