Seniors debate over downsizing or renovating

With more people living well into their 70s and 80s, the question of whether to keep seniors in their homes or to move them in with relatives or to a nursing home arises, Moneyville reports. Moving an elder loved one out of the home they raised their families in can not only bring up some mixed emotions, it might also pose new questions, such as "How much storage is going to be needed for their stuff?"

According to the publication, many times the question of selling mom or dad's house arises when they are no longer able to maintain their property. From this, some opt to sell their homes altogether in order to move into a retirement facility or a condo, while others prefer to make certain updates to their homes to make them more senior friendly.

Bringing up such topics can be difficult for seniors as many don't want to leave the place where they raised their children because it holds so many memories. Others are worried about all of their items that they've collected over the years.

Downsizing or renovating poses certain challenges, however finding affordable self storage in Toronto or anywhere else can make moving or fixing up a home that much easier. This way, parents are able to hold on to their favorite pieces of furniture or trinkets and keep them in a safe place until a decision on where to live is finalized.

SeniorCareHomes.com reports that when moving, it's best to work on one room at a time, as trying to pack up items in multiple rooms can become overwhelming.
