Jiffy goes green with energy-efficient systems

Jiffy Self Storage, a leading provider of Toronto storage solutions, is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and helping the environment. The popular self storage facility has installed a number of "green" systems in recent years in order to reduce energy usage and help save the Earth.

Perhaps the most significant change is the company's energy-efficient HVACs (heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems). Jiffy's HVAC system uses naturally cool air from outdoors to keep the temperature down in inside spaces. If the outside temperature is below a certain point, all air conditioning is automatically turned off and the outside air is filtered inside so no energy is wasted.

Jiffy's new roof also serves to reduce energy usage. Insulation is typically measured by something called an "R-value," and Jiffy took this into account when choosing a new roof. The installation of the roof increased the R-value from three to 20, allowing the building to retain heat and cool air more easily.

Lighting has also received a major overhaul, with all fixtures using energy-efficient bulbs. In addition, lights were put on timers so they can be automatically turned off when not in use. Several other electric devices in the facility, including ventilation fans, are also now on timers. Small businesses may want to consider similar initiatives in order to help the environment and reduce their energy costs.

Jiffy offers businesses plenty of options for Toronto storage, whether it's filing cabinets or office supplies. What's more, the company is currently holding a contest for a new iPad 3, which is a device that just about every businessman could use to help improve productivity.
